I have received news of Everett Marshall being injured. Terry, This afternoon (Wednesday), Everett Marshall was seriously injured when a tanker truck he was cleaning exploded. Hew was on top of the rig when it blew and was thrown quite a distance. He was medivaced to Temple Hospital in Philadelphia where he is in critical condition with burns, broken bones and possible other injuries . The tanker was ripped completey apart in the blast and there was damage to his offices. I spoke with his wife Chris about 9 PM Wednesday and Everett was in surgery. He has a broken leg and possible other breaks too but I'm not sure- That's all I know now, but it is serious. I thought the Matchbox people should be aware of his problem - Contacting the family or his offices will be impossible. I'll know more tomorrow. Keep him in your thoughts. Thanks Terry Here is a local story about the accident Explosion hurts former Newfield mayor He was injured as he worked at a terminal of his fuel hauling firm. By Sam Wood Inquirer Staff Writer A former mayor of Newfield was critically injured yesterday when a fuel tanker truck he was working on exploded, authorities said. Everett Marshall III was elected mayor of the 1.7-square-mile Gloucester County town, just north of Vineland, in 1982 and served for 20 years. Marshall, 56, runs the day-to-day operations of Marshall Service Inc., which hauls fuel oil cross-country. He was cleaning the tanker at the company's Pearl Street terminal about 2:30 p.m. when there was an explosion in the 8,000-gallon tank, said Fred Buono, Newfield's chairman of public safety. "He was inside the tank when it happened," Buono said. "Somehow, even on fire, he was able to scootch himself out and call for help." A helicopter took Marshall to Temple University Hospital, where he was treated last night for severe burns, Buono said. Mayor Rick Westergaard declared a local emergency, and Marshall's building was declared unsafe to enter. The cause of the explosion is unknown, Buono said, and the previous contents of the tanker have not been determined. Marshall has remained active in local politics since losing the office to Westergaard. He sits on the Borough Council and is chair of the garbage and recycling committee. But his name is known the world over because of one of his obsessions. Marshall has a collection of 30,000 Matchbox cars, valued at $1 million, which he displays at the Matchbox Road Museum adjacent to the truck terminal. It was unclear last night whether the collection had been damaged.

I wanted to express my sadness to hear about Everett. As I searched the internet I came across some articles and pictures. From reading and hearing reports, this is devastating. Everyone should keep Everett in their prayers as a burn is the worst king of injury anyone can have. Lets pray that Everett gets through this, with 50 to 75 percent of burns on his body, from what the reports are, Everett is in serious condition. Everett will be enduring alot during the next days, weeks, months, and years. Burns are the most painful to recover from. The biggest challenge for Everett will be infection, bones can heal but it is infection and pain from the burns that will be most traumatic.

I spoke with Bill Shisler tonight (4/20/06). The latest news is, Everett's family is by his side, waiting as we are. One tidbit heard was, he showed some improvement today. His sons and daughter are in with his wife and mother, mother-in-law. He has both legs broken, burns over half his body mostly on his backside. The fire & police investigators have the business area locked down, I was told the museum was not affected, except for a clock fell off the wall. Everett's family will give us news as they can give us. For now, let's hope and pray. I'll keep posting any news I hear.

MBX Collectors Ambassador ********** Hello John Y, I wanted to contact you about the latest on Everett. Since this tragic accident happened, I suspected that there was some information withheld about Everett by the family. First let me say that Everett is really doing well, out of ICU and should be going to Moss Rehabilitation Center in Bucks County, PA sometime soon. The sad news is that due to two different circumstances, both of Everett's legs required amputation. One when he was first admitted due to his knee/leg being completely shattered and not surgically possible to save it. The second several weeks after the first amputation due to severe burns, causing infection and circulation problems below the knee. I was floored when hearing this news as you can imagine. But I understand completely the family's wishes to wait until Everett was well on his way to complete recovery to fully disclose the issues with his legs. There will be one more skin graft operation to prior to moving to Moss Rehab. Eventually, he will be fitted with state of the art prosthetics. There is a benefit golf outing planned for Everett on July 28 at Everett's home course, White Oaks CC, Newfield, NJ. When I find out more regarding that, I will gladly pass on the information. Models are also in the works, as you know, and should be available relatively soon. Information on a fund for Everett that has already been established will also be passed along when details are known. the Everett Marshall Charities Golf Tournament was held on Friday, August 18, 2006. A report from Bill Shisler: Hello Terry, The Tournament on Friday for Everett was a tremendous success. The weather was perfect for an August afternnoon with about 110 golfers taking the links in support of E-man. Everett came about 12:15, just prior to the tee off. He spoke to the crowd with sincere appreciation as we awaited the start of the tournament. He then went back home for a few hours to rest up before coming back for the dinner part of the event.There were several Matchbox supporters highlighting the numerous tee signs on the course (You, Kerry and Mika being one of them). We produced a model, which Everett had many in stock, of the original "Newfield Borough Fire Co." produced by Matchbox in the pre Tyco days, that were given to all the golfers. This model went back in the original box, too. They were offered for sale to the attendees of the dinner, also. I'm sure the remainder of the run will be available to the collectors with all model proceeds benefitting the Everett Marshall Charities Fund. White Oaks CC was packed with people when we came off the course. In all, there were about 275 people for the Dinner. (Due to being on a Friday, and short notice, The "Together for Tyler Flight Demonstration Team" was unavailable, but we'll try to get them for next year!). Everett's son, Rhett wheeled Everett in around 6:00 PM and obviously the throng of well wishers lined up to greet him. He was in great spirits and genuinlly overwhelmed by the turnout for him. He spoke again thanking everyone and vowed to be out on the course next year with his new legs. (State of the art ones, too that "will give me an extra 20 yards", according to Everett). Im sure the long, well deserved standing ovation that followed was an emotional one for him with many in the crowd wiping their eyes. In all, a truly successful event. Everett will remain home now for several weeks then return to Moss Rehabilitation Center to receive his new legs. Thanks, Terry. I'll speak with you soon. Bill
